Waterfall Valley to Windermere Hut
The walk from Waterfall Valley to Windermere is 7.0km and estimated to take 2.5hours, though of course all times are just a guide, and will depend on many factors such as level of fitness, breaks, side trips and photo taking opportunities!
The Track encompasses many different landscapes and was very much up and down on this leg of the walk. You will come across a track junction to Lake Will, just before Lake Holmes.
The side trip to Lake Will is 4.8km, 2 hours return. Recommended if time and weather permits. (see photo below)
Accommodation at Windermere
Windermere has 1 hut, which will sleep 24 people. Additionally there are many tent platforms at this camping spot, and they are well spaced and large. Once again, many people raced ahead to secure a spot in the huts. If you do want hut accommodation - it seems that in peak season, you might need to be speedy. Which is fine, if that is what you want to be, but if you have a good tent, then the need for speed is something you don't need to worry about. Take your time. You just don't know when you will be back.
The hut is located in a nice sheltered spot by a small forest and like the others, same sort of set up in terms of facilities.
Composting toilet and water tank are there as well.
Helpful Hint for Platform Use
Prior to departing on the Track, I purchased cord for the tent platforms, as you may need to attach your tent to the attached cables on the platform, and the cord will be used if the cable configuration doesn't match your tent.
Mine is free standing and the weather was fine so it wasn't as much of an issue for me, but if you do need to secure your tent in windy conditions, having cord will be handy.
