Kangaroo Island - where to camp, and what to do (plus some handy tips)

Wallabies in wild
Kangaroo Island is off the coast of Adelaide, and is the third largest island in Australia. To get there you can go via air and fly into Kingscote, or via ferry (provider is Sealink).
It remains relatively untouched over the years, and that is a definite attraction – in this day and age of technology and modern buildings, KI remains a country town – albeit spread over a large distance.
The road that takes you from one end of the Island to another cuts through dense vegetation, and as you drive you could be anywhere in Australia. And then you take a small unsealed road off the main road, and discover the beautiful untouched rugged coastline and pristine and isolated beaches. If this was elsewhere in Australia, you would have trouble having a beach all to yourself. In KI, having a beach to yourself is more frequent than not.
